Hola everyone! Just to remind everybody, we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week next week. The kick-off event is on Sunday, January 28, when we are hosting an "Open House" at our school (1:00pm to 3:00pm). Let's get the word out...we know that a solid Catholic School education is the foundation for success. St.Bernard School develops "smarts and hearts"...I hope to see new faces in our halls on January 28th.
Spelling : shortened list this week (14 words) Vocabulary skill building via story content....Word List: bakery ingredients batch mixture dough knead braided boils biscuits muffins Challenge words are: jalapeno chiles panaderia* Mexican. *Spanish word for bakery (used in our story) These words have been introduced in class and are part of our daily Language Arts activities. Test on Friday.
Reading: We are in Book #2 of our reading series...Reading Street (Scott Foresman) We will be finishing up our story "Jalapeno Bagels" and will review content. Students will gain valuable vocabulary skills and work on comprehension skills while developing an appreciation for a variety of genres in reading. We will also be reading several short stories and poetry to continue to learn about Black History and its role in the continuous development of the United States.
Math: Continue with Multiplication facts; review of measurement and word problems. "Thinking through Math" and analyzing the problems are important steps in developing critical thinking skills. Moby Max is suggested for atleast 30 minutes per week. Your guidance on using this interactive Math program is appreciated.
Religion: We are currently studying Jesus' adult life here on earth, when He begins to fulfill the mission. We will be studying Jesus' two natures: God and Man.Not only are we using our Religion Text book but Bible verses..we will read from John, Matthew, the Colossians and Peter. There will be Scripture passages assigned for reading as well..We will be preparing for the next Liturgical event ...Easter.
** We are participating in the Heart Association Annual event right here at St.Bernard's School...please check backpacks for information on donating online or in school. Jump ropes and Hoops for Heart is a wonderful program to donate money for research and prevention of heart diseases. This is truly a good cause to participate in!* Thanks.
